“SKILLS FOR LIFE” Martial Arts Based Government recognized training for schools

A revolutionary new school based training and education program for secondary school students may change the way we look at how education and training is delivered in schools across Australia. The program integrates the teaching of traditional martial arts and nationally recognized vocation and education subjects that lead towards credits for the student’s year 11 and 12.

The benefits of this integrated approach means students are able to physically train in the art of Karate whilst at the same time theorize about the science (anatomy, physiology, biomechanics) behind the activities they are doing and gain education in healthy living and lifestyle planning. One of the most important features of this unique program is the training and education the student receives via the martial arts in relation to community virtues and values. These community virtues and values are so often by-passed in education and training today and include such important qualities as the concept of continuous improvement, respect, loyalty, gratitude and honor. The martial arts is a perfect medium to be able to present these topics as it is delivered in an exciting, motivating and rewarding environment to the student.

The Program consists of 5 hours per week study (2 hours being physical training whilst the remaining 3 being theoretical study of the government recognized units of competence listed below.

  1. SRSMAR001A Develop knowledge of the martial arts industry
  2. SRSMAR002A Collect information on the philosophy and structure of the martial arts industry
  3. SRSMAR003A Collect information on the philosophy and foundations of the martial arts industry
  4. SRSMAR004A Teach or develop the basic skills of martial arts
  5. SRFFIT002A Apply basic exercise science to fitness activities
  6. SRFFIT005A Apply basic exercise science to fitness instruction
  7. SRXGRO001A Facilitate a group
  8. SRSCOP003B Demonstrate personal image and presentation skills
  9. SRXIND002A Develop and implement a career path
  10. SRSCOP004B Develop negotiation skills

The Instructors of the “Skills for Life” program for schools are amongst Australia’s most highly credentialed martial artists. Only the best Instructors are chosen for this project and so the following minimum standards have been set by the program developers “the International College of Kenshusei” that will ensure quality and consistency of the program. The CEO of the International College of Kenshusei, Mr. Barry Johnston say’s all instructors must;

  • be well respected figures in their local community
  • have a minimum of 1 st degree black belt
