What if I have already completed an NCAS accreditation courses via our association

If your association or federation already conducts coaching accreditation (NCAS) as a requirement for registration, you can have this learning for "accreditation" recognised for credit toward your nationally recognised "qualification". Enrolment into nationally recognised courses will make available various forms of government assistance including but not limited to austudy, pensioner education supplement and work for the dole.

What is the difference between NSCAS (National Sport Coaching Accreditation Scheme) Accreditation, and the VET (Vocational Education and Training) Qualification.

National Sport Coaching Accreditation Scheme, was designed for coaches prior to the VET martial arts coaching qualification being integrated into the already existing National Qualifications Framework. NCAS Accreditation must be re sat every 3 years as part of on going re registration process for certain federations and associations. Qualifications on the other hand, such as the ones offered by ICK, once completed last a life time. Legitimate professional career path qualifications can be attained via VET, which in turn will make available government financial assistance to participants such as austudy, pensioner education supplement, work for the dole etc.

What is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)

A Recognised Training Organisation (RTO) is an accredited private training provider, that is registered under the Vocational Education and Training act of 1990. As an RTO we offer Nationally recognised training programs and successful participants are awarded Nationally Recognised Qualifications under the NQF (National Qualifications Framework).

What Qualifications Programs does ICK offer?

ICK offers a variety of qualifications for a variety of inter-related industries. Nationally recognised Qualifications are offered for the fitness industry, sport industy, martial arts industry, security industry and first aid industry.

These qualification programs are for those who have a genuine interest in their chosen industry, who want to begin a career or expand on their current knowledge base by achieving the required qualifications for that industry.

Which qualification is best for me?

You should choose the qualification program that is appropriate for your needs, professional goals, knowledge base and experience. Please read the certification description to assist you in your decision.

Are there any pre-requisites?

Most qualifications will begin at Certificate II, therefore there are no required pre-requisites to apply for study at this level. Certificate III qualifications and higher will require you to have evidence of competence at the preceding level. For example, You should have completed certificate II before applying to enrol in certificate III, or, have presented evidence of competence at the certificate II level via means of having prior learning and experience formally recognised and documented. This process is called Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

ICK suggests that when applying for prior learning at Certificate III and Certificate IV in fitness, sport or martial arts it would be to your benefit to have some education and/or experience in human anatomy. A suggested reading resource would be "The Anatomy Coloring Book" by Kapit and Elson.
ICK reserves the right to deny acceptance into any qualification program if these minimum requirements are not meet.

What is RPL?

RPL recognises the skills you have gained from other courses, life experience, work experience and training provided at work. The RPL process measures your skills against the outcomes of a course or module.

RPL includes course/module exemptions. RPL does not include Credit Transfer.

It is important to apply for RPL if you think you have already got some experience that might be relevant to your course.

The advantages of RPL are:

  • You can work out whether your experience and/or training is similar to that required by the course/module for which you have enrolled. (Note: results can only be entered after enrolment.)
  • If you have already achieved some of the outcomes you might not have to do some of those again thereby saving time and effort.
  • It means that you only have to do modules which are new and challenging.
  • It recognises that you are commencing with many skills—that you are not a total beginner.

If you would like to move ahead with the RPL process please contact our admin team on 1300 666 112 for further information.

Once a student can demonstrate competence according to the qualification requirements, they may be signed off for that particular unit or qualification. On average a certificate level qualification usually takes between 6 – 12 months of study via a flexible learning process.

All enrollees in ICK Sport coaching and fitness qualifications only pay $50 per full day workshop. These workshops are offered to individuals externally as CEC (Continuing Education Credit) courses for a cost of $160 per full day workshop.

What is a (CEC) Continuing Education Credit Course?

Once your qualification has been issued your relevent peak body should you be required to join one, may require you to prove currency, before re-accreditation. This “currency” is measured via attaining CEC’s (Continuing Education Credist). Recognised CEC courses are the only way you can attain these credits. Most full day seminar held by ICK attracts around 5 CEC’s. Most industry peak bodies, require evidence of participation of up to 18 CEC’s, prior to becoming re enrolled with that peak body every three years or so.

What are industry peak bodies and must I join them?

There is no legislation to say that you MUST join any industry peak body, however the sporting and fitness industry in attempt to administer self regulation policies have adopted structured plans to ensure the credibility and professionalism of their industry. For example the Fitness Industry accept that before you can work in many gymnasiums and fitness centres around the country, you must have “Fitness Australia” accreditation.

Industry peak bodies may bring benefits such as goup buying power for goods and services such as insurance or trade tools such as software packages.

The minimum requirement for joining an industry peak body is a nationally recognised qualification at a minimum of Certificate III.

What is Competency Based Learning?

Nationally recognised qualifications or statements of attainment are able to be issued once competence has been demonstrated. This may be determined via, course study, RPL or on the job assessment via a nationally recognised trainer and assessor, qualified in or working in collaboration with a person already qualified in the certification being sought. Simply ask yourself, can I do the job required for the qualification being sought?

  • successful completion of workbook assignments,
  • assessment of skills learned at ICK workshops, seminars and courses,
  • completion of assessment exams held at workshops, seminarsand courses

What happens if I do not pass an assessment?

If you fail to achieve competence in a particular assessment, you will be given opportunity to complete that particular unitor element at a date to be agreed upon by yourself and the assessor. All ICK staff will work diligently to help you achieve your goals. You will not be issued your certificate until you have fully passed all assessment requirements.
